EAST PRESTON AND KINGSTON BOWLS CLUB ETIQUETTE GUIDE
Welcome to the green! Keeping up with our club etiquette is all about making sure everyone at East Preston and Kingston Bowls Club has a wonderful, friendly, and fair game. We always look the part by dressing correctly for matches, competitions, and roll-ups, and we love to start and end our games with a cheerful greeting and a proper handshake. When someone is on the mat, we give them our full support by standing quietly and perfectly still, saving our catch-ups and socialising for the clubhouse afterwards. It is also great practice to stay on our own rinks so we don’t pop up in our neighbours' way, and to keep a helpful eye out so our shadows don't accidentally block the jack or the mat on those lovely sunny days.
True sportsmanship is at the very heart of our club, which means keeping things beautifully positive on the green. We are all about cheering on our teammates, giving our opponents a hearty clap for a brilliant shot, and laughing off our own flukes with a smile. Everyone pitches in to help clear the bowls at the end of an end, with our trusty number twos updating the scoreboard and the losing lead grabbling the pusher to get things ready for the next turn. Above all, we play with a smile, respect the rules, and never criticise the green or each other. Once the final bowl is played, win or lose, we always wrap up the day by offering to buy our opposite numbers a well-deserved drink—after all, they are our guests, and there is nothing better than a good chat in the clubhouse!
